Surf Wise

Recommended  flic;  documentary Surf Wise

Life for the Paskowitz family was about traveling on the road, surfing the United States and taking a different approach to life, with Dorian Paskowitz, his wife and 10 children living out of an RV.  It's a refreshing film that might just leave you itching to navigate your own road to happiness.

Thanks For the Dinner & The Sex

Dang, the best flic I've seen in a while. Directed and edited by Dion Agius, I give him props for doing something a little different by giving us this retro vhs style jammy. As well as Beren Hall for producing such an off the richter soundtrack mixed with film audio clips. I had to watch it a few times because the soundtrack was "sooooo good", as well as the visual, I just couldn't handle it in one sitting. Click below to watch the film in full.

The Dark Side of The Lens

One unbelievable and inspiring man. Mickey Smith is one of those fortunate fools, a phenomenal world known surf photographer whose recent film The Dark Side of The Lens brings surf cinematography talent to an unreachable level of perfection. He speaks beautifully throughout the film, leaving you visually stunned, emotionally affected and admiring his humble character.

"Everything in front of the lens is bright and what people see, you know what’s there. But you don’t think about the person behind those images, hence I named it The Dark Side of The Lens. That’s why I’m a photographer rather than a surfer: I naturally observe and document in my head. If I’m out with a group, I find it uncomfortable to sit there talking to loads of people. I’d rather remove myself and watch" - Mickey Smith

180 South, Conquerers Of The Useless

An amazing film inspired by the makers and movers of the the brand Patagonia. Jeff Johnson re-follows the footsteps of his hero's who traveled on an epic journey to Patagonia, Chile. This film isn't just for surfers and climbers, but it is for free spirits, independent thinkers and people who want more from life than our typical American culture. In this true story, writer Jeff Johnson leaves his "9-to-5" job to catch a ride down to Mexico by boat and make his way down to Patagonia on a once of a lifetime personal journey. I was so inspired by this film that I donated some of my hard earned funds to future National Park, Conservacion Patagonica, and signed up to volunteer with the group in Chile this winter. This is a movie worth watching, several times.

Produced by Woodshed films. Available on DVD and Netflix.

Press Pause Short Film

The Press Pause surf short was shot in Reunion Island in 2010 by Ian Mourier. This location off the coast of France looks crazy, I'm putting it on my list of places to go to. The black and white movie intro was done really well, looks really clean and contrasted. The entire film has cool cinematography, so enjoy!

Globe's Imaginarium UNGU Short Film

An astounding short film called Ungu, released by Globe and directed by Joe G. It's about time people put a little artistic thought into surf cinematography. Props to Joe G and Scott Soens for really unique surf photography. It makes for a perfect feature on this blog.

Behind the scenes on the Ungu shoot with 30 hot pink models.
